The Colourstrings Method - Introductory Seminar with Géza Szilvay

ESTA Italy is pleased to announce a special event planned for next autumn: a two-day intensive seminar with Géza Szilvaycreator of the famous Colourstrings method.

Who is Géza Szilvay

Born in Budapest in 1943, Géza Szilvay studied violin at the Béla Bartók Conservatory and violin education at the Budapest Music Academy. After moving to Finland, he taught at the Helsinki East Music Institute and the Sibelius Academy, making a major contribution to string instrument pedagogy. Together with his brother Csaba, he founded the Helsinki Junior Strings (today The Helsinki Strings), with whom he has made 38 international tours and 28 recordings. Since 2012 he has been running the project International Minifiddlersby broadcasting Colourstrings worldwide via videoconferencing.

What it is about

The seminar will offer a unique opportunity to get to know the Colourstrings method directly from its creator. Based on the principles of Zoltán Kodály, the method is founded on the idea that music is everyone's right and that musical training should start with singing, the most natural and accessible instrument.

Through this approach, the development of the inner ear, the relationship between voice, emotion and cognition, and conscious instrumental practice become central elements of a balanced and comprehensive teaching.

Who it is aimed at

The initiative is aimed at string instrument teachers and students on advanced coursesand is designed as a supplementary supplement to any other teaching method. No previous knowledge of Colourstrings or the Kodály method is required.

Mode

• Dates: Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 November 2025

• Hours: 10.00-13.00 e 14.30-17.30

• Language: English, with simultaneous translation into Italian

• Structure: mainly theoretical, with practical moments in support of materials and publications presented

The course is accredited by MIUR and is payable with Carta Docente via the SOFIA platform.
