FROM MOVEMENT TO SOUND Workshop with Diane Daly | November 7–8, 2026 Music and movement for string instrument teachers
ESTA Italia offers a new workshop dedicated to the relationship between body movement, musical understanding, and instrumental practice, aimed at teachers of string instruments.
Through accessible movement experiences, listening and discussion activities, and moments of instrumental practice, participants will be guided to explore through the body some fundamental aspects of musical language, such as rhythm, phrasing, articulation, dynamics and character, To subsequently transfer these experiences into instrumental practice.
Inspired by the principles of Dalcroze methodology, The workshop will explore the potential of body-based learning in development coordination, freedom of movement and musical expressiveness, With particular attention to the relationship between musical intention, bodily perception, and instrumental gesture.
The experiential dimension will also allow for experimenting with creative ways of improvisation and to develop exercises and teaching strategies that can be applied concretely in different contexts: from individual lessons to group teaching, with the possibility of adapting to students of different ages and levels of experience.
Participants are required to bring your own instrument. It is also invited to participate with a willingness to move, play and experiment, integrating listening, movement and instrumental gesture.
